Matta Fair

Day 1

Day 2

Day 3

I'll take this as a second cosplay job after the St. Patrick's day. In comparison to St.Patrick, the welfare of the cosplayers was better taken care of by the Reliance. We have longer rest and good food. Unfortunately, like many organizers, they fail to see the core of cosplay - being in character. We were required to attract people to their booths, hoping to increase sells. Honestly, I doubt cosplayers can affect their decisions. Rather than promoting the event, cosplay serves more as an additional side attraction for those who came in, to take picture with us and all. Some of the people in charge kept saying we are not doing anything. One moment we have to stand separately and not talk to each other. So we smile and say welcome to people who passed by. Then they said we just stood there, not doing anything. So we try grouping together so people will take picture. Then I realize people just took pictures, crowded the front entrance without entering the hall. So redundant huh...Anyway, the third day was slightly better as they planned a bit stuff for us to do. The few person who looked after us were kind too - Evan Lai, Sean, Seung Chin and Athena Crystal.

Overall, it was good because I get to hang out with my fellow cosplayers - Sakura Wong, Kuro Yami, Qi Hui, Othman, Sparda, Yukito, Kagamine Rin, Randy and Aiko Shorin. Learned to play Thunderstone and pawned Sparda and Anthony! Bwahahahah!

E3 Annual Dinner Hair Show

It has been awhile since I last hit the runway. I didn't even have my shoes anymore. Rushed out to get one when I get this job. At first I feared I couldn't perform but after a session of warm up, I'm back in the mode again. Initially, I went to their saloon for selection. All the hairstylist avoided working with me because my hair was scarce. The look that some of them gave and the way they speak in front of the models showed little respect for this supposed 'profession'. I have my dignity and I showed them I'm different, not the snobbish kind of different but the attitude kind of different. In the end, I worked with John, the hairstylist from E3 saloon. I was given a red dress although I much preferred the white I got initially but oh well...stuff happens. The make-up artist was sweet, regret that I didn't get her name though. All in all, it went well. I miss the runway. Not for fame or money (local models generally earn very little unless they are superstar kind of model) but for the thrill on stage.

The runway first changed my self-confident back then. I'm always grateful for the stuff I learned through modeling - the fashion sense, the pose and poise. Unfortunately, there are way too much bad stuff at the back stage in modelling. It's sickening and I can't proceed further. Sigh...I was once passionate about modelling too but it all died down because no matter how hard I tried, there is always this missing link. I feel sad for some of them that I first met in modeling. Till today after 5-6 years, they are still joining all this model search. Some won some didn't but generally, nobody moved on much. I particularly dislike model photographers who generally do not respect their subjects. Hence, a special thanks to Anthony for making his special appearance for the show. Terima kasih berbanyak!

Marble Arch

Two weeks ago, I went to Marble Arch Boutique for some fashion shoots. Most of the pictures are already up in facebook. Just to share the experience, it was fun to be able to work in my comfort zone. The photographer and manager were sporting enough to trust the models and gave us liberty to dress up as we feel right. Hehe...the belts, accessories and other props were at our own dispose. XD

Figure 1.0 Dress.
Figure 1.1 A bit like Indiana Jones.

Figure 1.2 Sigh...can never understand leggings.

Figure 1.3 One of my favourite.

Figure 1.4 Boots can go with anything weh.

Lol...but just like any other shots, I do have some bummer moments. After reviewing the outcomes, yeah, I think I should smile more. Hehe...hopefully there's more to come!

Face Painting

Well...it's my first freelance job during my sem break. Face painting involved using body paint (some really expensive gluey stuff) to paint...face la in this case. I was kind of desperate for a job once holiday starts and I just took this job even though I've never heard of face painting in my whole life! A friend of mine convinced my boss that I can draw and so...I became a face painter. Lolz...it's actually a Go Green Campaign held in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail Park. As usual, I got lost on my way there and took two hours to show up. Luckily I expected myself to be lost in the city and got out from home at wee hours. About nine in the morning, the booth was set up and work began. I worked under Bonuslink booth with another girl by the name Yogesh. She provided me with body paint, brush, tissues and water. Stupid boss...he told me to just bring myself and nothing else. Can you believe it? Going to do face painting without body paint, brush, tissue and water? That's like going to sail without a ship. Anyway...she said it's okay la, can share with her. There goes 20% of my pay...

This is how the place looked like. I didn't manage to walk around though cuz people just kept coming to get their face paint...weird, eh? Will you get your face paint? I only get a 45 mins break to eat and go to the loo. By the way...the portable toilet was a nightmare. I've never seen anything like that. Since it rained a little in the morning, the whole place was a bit muddy and mud have the colour of diarrhoea and they are everywhere in the toilet so...you can imagine huh? I was tempted to take some pics but a dozen of people already gave me a weird kind of look so I just close my eyes, do my business and went back to work.

I worked mainly with children although some adults popped up out of nowhere to get their face paint too. I was told by Yogesh to draw flowers and butterflies only since I've never done before. Heck, I can't be drawing these on boys, can I? Well...I sort of go the extra mile to do something else la. I hope she didn not get pissed. Really, I was just...bored with butterflies. It started off with dolphins, scorpions then eventually more daring - tigers and clown. Since my boss didn't complain, I just carried on. Here are some of the pics of my work. Nothing impressive la but I do hope to do better next time.

Flowers, flowers, flowers and more flowers. I like that butterfly but her mom insisted that the butterfly looked fierce. I was like, "whatever you say, ma'am".

Hmm...actually, this fella was the one who prompted me to do something other than flower and butterflies. Erm...at least he was smilling. Hehe...thanks for the confident in me, dude.

This guy had something on earlier. After seeing his friend on top with a tiger face, he wanted one too. Hmm...this one looked more fierce though.

This one is my favourite. He came and I asked him what he would like me to do. He shrugged and said, "apa-apa jelah". His dad told me a flower or butterfly will do. My mouth went jelly-O and I persuaded the kid for a tiger. He shrugged again and said, "buat badut la". His dad went jelly-O. Here is the result.

This is the whole wacko team. Heheh...the pay wasn't much but I kind of enjoyed it. Can't believe I've worked with kids the whole day!
